Testing Word
Is is not a good idea to copy and paste from an MSWord file?
Word has some funny ideas about formatting that can cause
problems. There's actually a past-from-Word function in the editor which
apparently works fairly well. It's the little clipboard with the W on
it. Copy from Word, then click on that to paste.

Pasting to the little clip board with the W worked great.

Re: Avertec notebook/laptop
I'm not sure if there are rules about using actual names,
but here's the story . . .
My laptop screen flickered occasionally, but otherwise was
working fine. Thinking there might be a faulty
electrical connection, I took it to the City Advantage Fire Dogs at the
Circuit City store in Daytona Beach, Florida where I bought it.
Ten days and many phone calls later, I learned they sent to
an outfit called Micro Medic in Richmond VA where service was denied because the
serial number was handwritten on the bottom (the decal had peeled off). I was pretty annoyed that they hadn't called
to alert me, so I asked that they just send it back and do nothing else. The
store manager was aware of my request.
After another week and more phone calls, I learned that
"the higher ups" had given the go-ahead and the laptop was now being
diagnosed. After another week, I receive
a call that service was denied again, this time because of "liquid"
damage to the machine and the power
cord -- a ridiculous accusation. That
little laptop is used by me and me only and I haven't spilled any liquid in it or
on the power cord.
It took almost a month, but I got my notebook/laptop back with
the hard drive intact and for that I'm very grateful and as a plus, the screen
doesn't flicker anymore.
I sent emails explaining that I don't like being called a
liar to every email address I could find for Circuit City, City Advantage and
Micro Medic and received several calls reiterating the calumny of liquid
damage. One resolution specialist said
he had pictures of the corrosion. I
asked that the picture be emailed to me, but guess what? Haven't gotten a picture yet.
This computer is almost three years old and as the warranty
is good until July 2008, it would be to their advantage to be able to fault the
owner and deny any further repairs.
This sounds like a scam to me.
PS: I'm not surprised
that Circuit City is experiencing financial problems.
Update: Smarmy reply from Quinnita_Ellis@circuitcity.com
Update 2 - Justin Bryant, Asst. to the CEO of Circuit City called to tell me there was rust inside the laptop. Now I haven't poured liquid into it. It's nature of the climate here in Florida, the nature of which was known to the seller because they sold me the contract in Florida knowing we live and work here.
